Katyusha was about to take another bite when she heard him stop short of what he was going to say. She had an idea as to what he would've said and felt her cheeks turn red. She smiled a little and repeated the words to herself. Thinking of you. It sounded like Matthew. Of course, the studying part did too, but that went for both of them. Her smile faded - although her blush lingered - when she saw him frown. What was wrong? What was he thinking about? Did she do something again...? She studied his expression for a few seconds and was just about to attempt to ask him about it when he asked a question of his own.
Blinking, she looked down at her soup, stirring it a little. Taking a moment to think, she answered, "I...haven't really thought about it. I-I guess I've been too caught up in school and work." And you. The little voice in her head spoke up and she tried to ignore the new heat in her face. A few more thoughts formed in her head; she remembered some girls talking about a Halloween party...? Whatever it was, it seemed popular. Taking a few more bites of her sandwhich and making sure to swallow completely, she reached for the glass of water, peeking over the rim. "W...Why...?"

“I don’t know…” Matthew played with his sleeves, not meeting her eye. “It’s been all over the school lately, the decorations in the halls and classrooms. It’s kinda silly.”
Gosh why was he so nervous?! They’d made out on the floor of a storage room and he couldn’t ask her to be his date for the party?! Matthew licked his lips and swallowed. He needed to man up! He didn’t deserve Katyusha but if she wanted him like he wanted her, then he at least owed her a proper invitation.
“They’re holding a party a-and…” Matthew took a deep breath. “And I was thinking of going… but I wanted to ask you… if, maybe, you’d come to… as my date?” He bit his bottom lip, flickering his eyes from the retro table top to her face, looking for even just a hint of rejection.

Katyusha stared at him, her eyes widdening a little, and she ran the question through her head again and again. He wanted her to come? As his date? Matthew and her, as a couple. At the party as a couple. Together. Them.
She found that a humoured smile had plastered itself on her face. Taken aback by her own reaction - she hadn't even felt herself do it, what was this? - she looked down at her food and fumbled for an answer in her brain. Words seemed to be useless things at the moment, so she simply nodded in response. She'd been interested in it but had had second thoughts about it, thinking about what she'd do once she actually got there and such. But...now she had someone to go with...and it was Matthew, no less.
It couldn't be too bad, right?

Every conceivable emotion ran through his mind. Suspense when she stared at him in shock, happiness that turned into horror when she smiled (was she laughing at his stupid attempt to ask her out?), then settled into a sort of overwhelmed state of joy that cause him to blink stupidly over and over like he didn’t believe she’d really said yes. Slowly a big, stupid, lopsided grin crossed his face and he reached across the table to grasp her free hand.
“We don’t have to dress up or anything, if you don’t want to,” Matthew said too quickly, and he cursed himself for sounding too over-eager. She probably thought he was desperate. He inhaled, then let out a weak chuckle, “I should probably warn you now… I can’t dance.”
As he saw it though, even if he looked like a chicken having a seizure whenever he tried to dance, he’d gladly embarrass himself if it meant having a real actual date with Katyusha.

Looking at their intertwined hands, she lifted her gaze to meet with his, giggling a little. He seemed really happy about it. Was she really that special? She was just another person... Just another pretty face in a pretty world. ...Well, she liked how happy he was. It made her think that maybe she was more than she thought.
"Don't worry...I-I can't dance, either." Taking her other hand and putting on both of their hands, even though she felt herself blushing even more, she glanced down at the table then back up at him. "I-I guess...we'll...learn together?" The thought of both of them stumbling around with each other like a bunch of blind drunk men made her giggle again, and she once again shyly avoided his gaze.

“Are you sure you want to go…? I mean, it’s costume only and there’ll be a lot of people…” Matthew was once again giving her a way out. If she wanted to change her mind she could even if it would crush him if she did. He smiled, laughing lightly at her comment about not knowing how to dance either. He was sure she was at least more graceful than him.
Matthew jumped as the sharp beep of his watch alarm went off, signaling that school curfew was upon them. “We should be getting back. It’s automatic detention for anyone to get caught out after curfew.” And he definitely did not want to be the cause of Katyusha getting detention.
Matthew gestured over to the waitress to pay the bill, sending Katyusha a mock stern look for no objections as he pulled out his wallet and handed her the money, letting the waitress keep the extra as a tip. They stood, and he wasn’t thinking when he reached out brushing back a lock of her yellow hair and tucking it behind her ear. Matthew froze, realizing what he’d done.
“S-sorry.” His eyes dropped to the tile floor, ears growing red in embarrassment.

"...No...I-I'll go. A-And I'll find something to wear.." Katyusha's reply was accompanied with the smile she just couldn't seem to get rid of. Why was he asking her for sure? Wasn't he happy about it? She still didn't like the idea of him paying for her, but she had a feeling that Matthew wasn't going to change his mind. Her thoughts were confirmed when the money was handed over along with a tip. Surpressing a sigh, she stood with Matthew, preparing herself to head back out into the cold---
But his hand pushing back strands of her hair stopped her in her tracks.
Lifting a hand to brush her fingertips along the skin he had touched, her face turned a lovely shade of pink and she averted her gaze to the side, although was unable to hold back the gentle smile on her face. She didn't say anything; she wasn't sure what so say anyways.

Matthew’s eyes turned upwards towards sky as they stepped outside, his face a bright pink and not from the cold. He hadn’t meant to be so bold... it’s just…
No, she wasn’t his girlfriend and it was greedy to think of her that way.
But at least she was going with him to the party. Matthew smiled, sneaking peeks of the way her face turned rosy from her blush and took her hand, the movement practically natural.
There was still so much they didn’t know about each other, because really, if you thought about it they’d only known each other for little over a couple weeks. This was the first actual relationship he’d ever had- or will have…. Hopefully. You see, Matthew had a plan.
At the Halloween party he was going to ask her to be his girlfriend.
The idea was girly, and over dramatic – it wasn’t like he was proposing!- but making the question more formal seemed better then just blurting it out like he was asking what she thought of the weather. Katyusha deserved more than that.
When they returned to the school, Matthew walked her to the entrance of the girls dormitories, lifting their laced hands to plant a kiss on her knuckles.
“Thank you for the wonderful evening, I’m sorry I kept you out so late.” He smiled softly, “You should go get some sleep…”

It's crap, I won't lie *goes off to the kitchen to make tea*

Katyusha had started thinking about the party as they walked back. Matthew had said that they didn't have to dress up if she didn't want to...but this was a Halloween party. Doesn't everyone dress up? She'd find something to wear, even if it wasn't...top notch or complex or anything like that. She then started wondering if she even had anything that could be remotely part of a costume. Worry grew in her mind, but she chose to leave worrying for another time. She didn't want to ruin the comfortable atmosphere...
She felt a little dissapointed that they were parting so soon, but told herself to look forward to the party. Don't embarress yourself and you'll be fine.
She blushed at the contact, the colour adding to her already pink face, and she bite her lip returning his smile. Nodding - but hesitating for a few moments - she released her hand from his grip and pulled herself into to give him a quick hug. Before pulling away, she spoke, her voice muffled into his clothing, "N-No...I should be thanking you." Fiddling with her hair a little after parting, she headed into the dorms, turning to wave shyly.
