Interrupted studying

Arthur walked towards the libary. Finally some peace and silence he thought. Nowadays everything was crowded. Even the rooftop, where he'd usually spent his time. Some poeple were just plain annoying. The Brit pushed the door open, it was quite empty around he'd noticed. Good. He walked over to an empty table in the back. He wasn't the greatest student in maths, definately not. Opening the book and starting to read. Just then he was interuppted by someone greeting him. He frowned some and looked up in annoyance. Couldn't they just leave him alone for a few hours?!

"Oh,I'm sorry." Nekolis said nervously. "I didn't mean to disturb you." he apologized tightening his grip on his newly selected gardening books. "I was just asking if I could sit here? I usually come here after class to read. I'll go somewhere else...." he trailed off.

The expression on Arthur's face softened. He hadn't meant to scare him. The other student looked rather nervous and had not the slightest intention to disturb him. "A-ah uhm okay." He mumbled as he felt a bit guilty. "I don't mind can sit here." He assured him.

Nekolis smiled a little."I'll be quiet" He sat down diagonally across the other boy. He opened his books and began to read, glancing at the other. After a few moments he said."My name is Nekolis. Nice to meet you. Thank you for letting me sit here."

He smiled again, his nerves wracking him yet again. Just stay calm and be polite.

Arthur just nodded and then went to his own book. He looked up and then wondered why the other boy had felt the need to introduce himself. "Ah you're welcome, I'm Arthur Kirkland, Nice to meet you." He said out of politeness and smiling gently. Though inside he just wanted to be left alone.

Nekolis recognized that look. He was being annoying. He gulped and nodded. He fidgeted nervously, almost shaking. One look had shattered his confidence. "Um, ah...nevermind" he whispered to himself.

Making friends was never easy.

Arthur hadn't expected that the other would take it that seriously. Was he being to rude? Cursing himself, inside as he decided to start somewhat of a conversation. Making a mental note to next time study somewhere else. Maybe in the janitors closet? The idea sounded disgusting.

The Brit forced a smile. "A-ah uhm sorry." He said as he awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "It's just whole day people been bothering me." He said. "N-not that you're bothering but I just looked for a silent place to study..." Arthur started to trail off.

Ah, the library. The one place where everyone wasn't all crowded and loud - a sanctuary, of sorts. Kiku took in a deep lungful of the wonderful book smell and it instantly started to calm his nerves. He then walked to the back to find a table there.

When he got to the back area, he found he wasn't alone...he was used to being alone. He thought fervently about what to do. Just turn around and find somewhere else? Or should he say something? He ended up just standing there rather stupidly for long enough to be noticed.

Sorry. I'll go away if you want me too. It really won't be hard to make Kiku go away right now. Heh. It might actually be harder to find an excuse to make him stay, but we'll see. Just tell me OOC if you want me to leave or stay, and I'll make whatever decision I need to as far as excuses.

Arthur glanced over to his right where he saw another boy standing. He sighed a bit. He never got his peace anywhere huh? He just knew he wasn't going to be able to study now. He changed his annoyed expression and smiled a bit. "Hello. You want to join us, studying?" He asked the other curiously.

Oh thank goodness, another person. Nekolis felt the stress on his mind lessen. He quickly his response to turn and see who was behind him. This boy was slender and Asian,looking as awkward as the freshman felt. "H-hello. Pl-please join us. My name is Nekolis. N-nice to meet you."

Ah! He was spoken to! ...But of course they're going to say something if he's just going to stand there like an idiot.

"...Yes, I was going to study," Kiku said, raising his books (which he had been holding to himself like a shield) slightly, as if in proof. "Although, I was originally planning on doing so by myself..." He trailed off, not wanting to be rude. He didn't have very many friends, although he wasn't a first year. He was sometimes told that he should be more sociable.

He bowed slightly toward the other boys. "I am Honda Kiku...ah...I mean, Kiku Honda," he introduced himself - at first forgetting and saying it in his own way, and then in the order that was standard for Westerners. He blushed in embarrassment.

Arthur nodded slightly in understanding. "A-ah yes, I also." he mumbled a bit. Well he was bit glad that this boy hadn't the intention to chat and disturb him. Maybe he would even get to study a chapter or two today.

Kiku seemed now just as nervous as Nekolis, which even made Arthur uncomfortable a bit. He sent the Japanese boy a bit of an awkward smile. "And I'm Arthur Kirkland, nice to meet you Kiku." He said.

Oh dear, this boy may even been more nervous than the little freshman. "Um, ah...would you like to sit down?" he asked Kiku. "Is it okay if he sits here Mr. Kirkland? You were here first so....." he finished,squirming in his chair. He played with the corner of his book, hoping they wouldn't notice too much.

"Nice to meet you as well," Kiku said back to the other. He bowed slightly again. He wondered if he should sit down, as the first year had asked him, or wait for Arthur's approval? He didn't really know what to do, it was rather pathetic.

He decided on at least putting his books down on the table. He grabbed the back of a chair lightly and said "I suppose we could study together, right?"

Arthur raised an eyebrow. Mr. kirkland? well that was new. He looked back at Kiku. "A-ah sure, I don't mind." In fact he actually did mind, he had rather studied alone but as long as the other two had the intention to study quiet then there was now problem, right?

The Brit didn't have many friends at all so maybe this was an oppertunity to make some, not annoying ones? He shrugged the thought off.

Nekolis suppressed a happy smile. Maybe this wasn't as bad as he thought. He looked about the table and went back to his reading, glancing at his tablemates. He then rummaged through his stack of books to find a notebook and a pen. He quickly started writing, first in Greek, then muttering, circling it, and writing it again in English.

He muttered as he read, hoping not be too loud.

Kiku pulled the chair out and sat in it. He then started rearraging his books so that the ones he wanted were on top and in front of him. He then opened up one of his notebooks - the pages covered in his neat writing. His eyes darted back and forth, reading the last lines quickly. Then he opened one of his books, turned to an empty page, and grabbed a pen.

He could do this...it was just studying...just...with two others around. Not a problem, right? ...Right.

Arthur watched the japanese boy sit across him. He noticed he was kind of cute. Immediately shrugging it off as it was stupid to see boys as cute. He went back to his own homework. At this point he wished he had someone to help with his maths homework.

He went with his fingers through his hair, sighing. Then he tried again to solve the problem. Why was it so hard.

Nekolis looked up at the sigh. "Is everything okay Mr. Kirkland? Do you need any help?" he asked. He fidgeted nervously then looked at his hands. "I've been going to tutoring so...maybe I can..." he said quietly.

Kiku looked up as well. He looked at Arthur's books. Mathmatics? One of his best subjects. He bowed he's head slightly. "I could definitely help," he offered, "...if you want me to."

He smiled, actually an expression of embarrassment, but perhaps it was hard to tell that.

I could probably help even if you actually gave me a real problem. I took up to Calculus in school. I would just need to clear the cobwebs. lol Of course, just pretending we know what the problem is would be more than fine as well. And then I wouldn't have to actually think. Heh.

Also, I was told in a psych class when we were talking about expressions and how some aren't universal, that Japanese people smile when they are embarrassed. Incidentally, I realized that I do this in RL as well.

Sorry for the long OOC comment.

Arthur snapped out of his thoughts. He looked from Nekolis to Kiku. "A-ah uhm, mathematics isn't my best subject." He said scratching the back of his head. "I don't quite know how to solve this question..." He showed Kiku the problem. "I-if it's not too much trouble, maybe one of you can help me." He mumbled with a slight blush a cross his cheeks. He didn't ask people for help that often.

Ooc: haha- problem, I haven't had mathematics in over 4 years, don't remember anything from classes. So hard to come up with an easy problem heh- help?

Oh.....it seems Kiku was better suited for this. Sheepishly, looked back at his own book. It was tough for the freshman, so many upperclassman with their strong personalities. It was so simple for the little Cypriot to fade into the background. Maybe he should stay there. Glancing up, he wondered if he should listen in, he did need help with math too.

Kiku looked at the problem and took in what it was asking. He absorbed himself in the work, not thinking about having to talk to people...just about what needed to be done. It helped calm his nerves considerably.

"Alright. So, why don't we start by doing something similar, to see if you can get it first, and then we'll go back to this one."

He ripped out a blank piece of paper from his own notebook and wrote down a problem with an indentical concept, but different numbers. "Now, you start with this..." he started explaining.

Honestly, some teachers didn't quite know how to explain things the right way to students. They knew their subjects, sure, but not all of them knew how to explain it properly to people who weren't good at picking up certain concepts. Kiku could generally see the holes - what wasn't being explained quite completely - and he would have probably made an excellent tutor if he knew how to approach people...but he didn't.

No problem. We will just pretend we know what the problem is. Narration can fill in the gaps of what they are saying. And god...I kind of feel like I'm re-living certain parts high school with this post.... Why so similar to me then, Kiku? Heh.

Arthur nodded slightly. "O-okay." He leaned a bit forward to see what Kiku was about to do as he ripped a paper from hs note book. He watched him closely and listened to his explaination.

It was a lot clearer to him now that Kiku had explained it to him. Smiling genlty and nodding. "I think I get it now. T-thank you." his cheeks became slightly pink.

Nekolis leaned in as well, taking it all in. Kiku was gentle and firm, unlike Ludwig. He seemed nice. The freshman sighed, suddenly feeling out of place. He muttered to himself then wondered if he should leave. (Don't forget about me! XD)
